Every year, a Christmas tree is delivered to the city of Boston from Halifax. The annual Haligonian gift technically dates to 1971, but it finds its origins in the First World War, when in 1917 disaster struck the Canadian port city. So, what was the Halifax Explosion of 1917, how did it take place, and how does it relate to Boston’s Christmas decor?
